Solo Flying Peace Mission

Capt Mohd Fairuz Mohd Sakirin, a local Malaysian will be aiming to break 3 world aviation records in his solo flying mission around the world. I have noticed this mission a number of years back say year 2000 (idea blossomed then). Hearing a bit here and there but it doesn't seem to "take-off". What's wrong with it?

Bad organisation? Bad co-ordination / scheduling? Mis-management of funds? Having a licence to fly small aircraft and you can call yourself a pilot captain? Maybe I'm ignorant in this area.

Only last year, it was mentioned that a sum of RM15.0 million was required to fund his expedition but it has shot up to RM20.0 million in a matter of 12 months delay. The RM20.0 million was supposed to include the purchase of a new TBM 700?? / TDM 850?? aircraft which could cost up to RM10.0 million. Out of the sum of RM20.0 million he has received RM10.0 million, just nice to purchase the aircraft. Early on, aircrafts such as the Columbia 400 or even a second-hand Pilatus PC-12 was mentioned. Can't decide on the aircraft??

He was supposed to go for training in to acclimatise himself with the new aircraft / altitude / weather in USA, Europe, Australia and in Malaysia too. So, no aircraft, no training??? He should go to Africa (where I have been) to get use to the desert heat also lah. It could shoot up to 50 degree celcius during the day. Why only try to get use to cold weather??? Another ill-prepared co-ordination here.

First launch of this mission was in year 2004, when the mission was called "Fairuz Wing of Peace". Didn't "take-off" due reasons such as financial constraints and war situation in Middle East. Just in case he didn't know, the war in Middle East has been there since the days of our forefather, Abraham and it's still there as at this second.

On the second launch held May last year, it was a fanfare with the Malaysia's Tourism Minister officiating it too. Was quoted that gahmen would try to help out as it would promote the name of Malaysia in view of the Visit Malaysia Year 2007.

This year, 3rd attempt of course ...... is this a record of attempt that could be registered in the Malaysia Book of Records. I could see that lots of attempts/efforts being put into it compared to no efforts being made to scale up the base camp of Mount Everest. I think he had been trying his very best as he was going around Malaysia with TV3's Carnival in year 2005, maybe trying to promote his mission to obtain funding for his pet project.

What are the records that he's attempting to break? To be the first solo pilot to fly to (1) 160 countries, (2) with 180 landings and (3) over 7 continents in 120 days. All the best to you. Oh yeah, in two forums here and here, it was mentioned that he will get a Datukship upon his achievement / return (a datukship is a honorary title bestowed by the state Sultan).

During a visit to the Air Traffic Control Centre in year 2004, ATC Centre director Lim Kim Seang was quoted as saying "it would not be easy to fly solo and be on the air for 24 hours as it required strong physical and mental endurance. I'll really admire him if he achieves this." Was it an encouragement or what???

Next thing is that I'm appalled by Borneo Post's reporting. It mentioned that a TDM 850 aircraft would be purchased for this mission. For goodness sake, a TDM 850 is a motorcycle lah!! Same thing with The Star as they reported that a TBM 700 (correct aircraft model) would be purchased from Eurocopter. Excuse me, Eurocopter majors in helicopters. Are you sure about it?

Let me clear the confusion, I think it's the TBM 850 from EADS Socata that would be purchased!!!

The 2nd launch held May last year: Was he supposed to fly off or what?? Probably "the budget" allocated to promote VMY 2007 through that event went down the drain b'coz he didn't take off!! No wonder he needs RM20mill now!...

Should his plan materialise in Sept'07, I would suggest he carries lots of pamphlets saying "It's still not too late to Visit Malaysia" - amen

you can view the press conference here:-http://technorati.com/videos/youtube.com%2Fwatch%3Fv%3DL8Q3HZGjA6Y

For somebody who's really into flying he surely doesn't know what he's talking about when it comes to world peace in particular the whole objective of the mission...to promote world peace? to promote visit malaysia year? or to promote yayasan fairuz? (probably the latter)

I pray that shall he accomplish spreading his mission the Syiah and Sunni will sign the so called 'watikah' and be brothers again and the Palestinians come to their senses and avoid their 'civil war', the mujaheedin will stop firing another bullet, the north koreans will halt their nuclear plans...and so will the iranians, displaced darfurians will be able to live in harmony and many other generations from other nations around the world whom have never breathed 'peace'...will be able to live their life to the fullest.

last but not the least will george w. bush make a promise on the 'watikah' not to attack an innocent defenseless nation again?

for us malaysians, we are blessed with the independence that our forefathers fought for. spreading the word for peace shall start from home. lets just keep it that way.

i wonder what michael backman will say?

This belongs to another project of a bygone era. Too big and very hollow. We need substance and if you really want to do this sort of stunt use you own money. Dont talk of moving Malaysian to the next level and conveniently use their money in the process.
