Chelsea Coach and Player Denied Entry

Chelsea is due to land in Malaysia for their Samsung-Chelsea Asia Tour 2008 in July 2008. The whole squad should be travelling together but minus one of the defenders and their manager.

Huh? What's the point of the tour then when the manager won't be travelling together with them. It's not so much of Avram Grant (if he's still the manager then) that doesn't want to travel. The concerned defender was Tal Ben Haim.

As Malaysia does not have any diplomatic ties with Israel, both Avram Grant and Tal Ben Haim may be denied entry into Malaysia. In Malaysia, Israel was not recognised as a nation but only known as the Tel Aviv regime. Malaysians are not permitted to travel into Israel without special permissions where it was printed clearly in our international passport too.

The Malaysian government is pondering over the issue now - to issue special permit entry or not. The last Israeli that had entered Malaysian soil was in year 1997 during the ICC Trophy cricket tournament which sparked off demonstrations in Malaysia.

I'm very sure that the Malaysian government authorities will come out in full force with their batons, riot police and water canon spray laced with chemicals to clamp down on such demonstrations. Surely Chelsea can land in Malaysia and play their match against a selection of Malaysian national players, safely!

This would be a major political decision. If the Malaysian government issues the special permit, the ruling political party may gain sympathy votes from Chelsea fans in the next general election. But it would face a backlash from citizens that are against the Tel Aviv regime's oppression on the Palestinian state. How? How?

I don't expect the UMNO Youth members or even Khairy Jamaluddin (UMNO Youth Deputy Head and the Deputy President of Football Association of Malaysia) to appear anywhere near Chelsea owing to the Israel connection as they had called for total boycott on Israel linked products / services way back in July 2006.
