China's Space Range Missiles

China at long last developed a new type of long range missiles. The target area? Space!

China was quiet in this area of missiles development and out of a sudden, with the last such missile being used by another nation was 20 years ago, China shot a missle up to the space to destroy one of its own weather satellite. It shocked many other nations such as USA, UK, Australia, Canada, South Korea and Japan.

China's explanation for the launching of such missile is to force USA into talks in doing away with space weapons. The missile was launched from Xichang Space Centre in Sichuan province at a speed of 76,000km/h (47,000mph) slammed straight at the weather satellite.

China's Al-Qaeda

Read about the existence of some extremists in the northwestern side of Xinjiang province in China. Apparently on 5 Jan 2007, scores of people were killed and injured when the China's police stormed into their place. A police, from the anti-terrorist front, was killed. Police hunt was still continuing for some who had escaped the police dragnet.

The police has been tailing the Eastern Turkestan Islamic Movement for some time back. With Xinjiang being located near the international borders of Afghanistan and Pakistan, extremists dropping by in Xinjiang was not a surprised. Some facts about Xinjiang:-

* There are 20 million Muslims in China; 8.5 million live in Xinjiang 23,000 of the 30,000 mosques in China are in Xinjiang
* Muslims in China fall into distinct racial groups. The largest, the Hui, are widespread. The next biggest, the Uyghurs, are almost entirely in Xinjiang

Another group being monitored by the police is the East Turkestan Liberation Organization. The Human Rights Watch is of course watching what China is doing in Xinjiang as there were concerns raised in the way China was handling the ethnic people in the combat against terrorism.

High Tea

High Tea - no, it's not the afternoon high tea that has a buffet range of food being served in hotels. It's more of those Chinese Tea which is of high quality.
Tea makers in China has a plan to promote its range of chinese teas in China and overseas where they are marketing a luxury niche brand, Lun Dao.
Lun Dao’s prices, has a price range from 10,000 to 20,000 yuan (US$1,282 to US$2,564) for 500 grammes of premium tea. This is a very high price to pay but what made it so special. The tea makes said that the price reflected its high quality and the cultural tradition that came with it. This Lun Dao tea is being marketed by Sichuan Emei Mountain Zhuyeqing Tea Co Ltd.

The tea leaves are being cultivated at a pure and fertile ecological tea garden on Emei Mountain in Southwest China’s Sichuan Province, where the best soil is located. The company claims that each 500-gramme package of Lun Dao tea is handpicked from 5 million fresh tea sprouts grown in highland tea gardens. On average, the output is only about two tonnes annually. The scarcity of the produce made the tea leaves more sought after. Another business ploy?

In Shanghai of China, educated, overworked and looking for love, members of China's new rich gathered for what was touted as the country's first dating cruise which was opened to men worth at least 2 million yuan (US$250,000; euro195,000). Great move?
The cruise, organized by a matchmaking website www.915915.com.cn, for which a ticket will cost 28,800 yuan (US$3,600; euro2,750). It's a public service for the site's members only. The website's members are 35 percent men & 65 percent women. The site allows members to post photographs and brief introductions and also counsels singles on how to find a match.

As for female participants had to be college educated and undergo a rigorous screening process. The paticipants planned to pass the evening cruising the Huangpu River aboard the Captain One, a faux square rigger bedecked with pink balloons and fairy lights hanging from its mast.

China-Africa Summit 2006

China has pledged to double its aid to Africa and provide $5bn in loans and credits over the next three years as announced in a summit attended by nearly 50 African heads of state and ministers. The 3 days summit is focusing on business with more than 2,000 deals under discussion (WOW!).
China's drive to buy African oil and other commodities has led to a big increase in two-way trade, worth $42bn (£22bn) in 2005 with China importing 38 million tonnes of crude oil from the continent in 2005 and has made major investments in oil and gas projects in countries including Kenya, Angola and Nigeria. China needs Africa's ample/rich supplies of natural resources and raw materials to fuel its surging economy and in return, invests in African roads, railways and other infrastructure.
Often, Chinese money is funding projects that western investors had deemed too risky (source: BBC News & China Daily). When you are in Sudan, you could numerous number of people from China itself. China government-owned companies were already in Sudan since 1990s.

Five countries in the Africa continent, namely Gambia, Malawi, Burkina Faso, Swaziland and Sao Tome have formal links with Taiwan, which China regards as a breakaway renegade province rather than an independent state. China has said that the five countries are welcome to send observers to the Sino-African summit, though they remain ineligible to join in the Sino-African strategic economic partnership as long as they continue to recognise Taiwan.

Sex Change Registration in China

As reported in China Gate's online news, at a town called Jiangnan in Anhua county of the Hunan province, a 30-year-old Li Guohua went to correct information in his registration booklet. At the registration office, Li's relevant information on the computer system was brought up and changed his gender from "male" to "female." What happened here? It seems that Li has his sex changed and now he has requested for his sex record to be changed in the national registration too. Afterwards, his 60-something-year-old dad Li Tieniu was in tears. He said: "I hope that "she" can find a good partner who treats her nicely."

Villagers Attacked Local Police Station

In Zhonghuo town, Danzhou, Hainan of China, there have been three consecutive days of rioting in which 20-30 villagers attacked the local police station. The door into the station was kicked down, the desks and air-conditioners were wrecked, the window glasses were smashed, several motorcycles in the courtyard were overturned and a police car was overturned and tossed into a ditch.
Several police officers were injured - 1 was stabbed in the stomach by a dagger, while 2 others were injured in the chest and back.

What happened here? Before you say "human rights violation," you should read the description. On the evening of 3 October, about 20 youths from Changshatian village had an arugment with youths from Zhonghuo village at a dance hall. This turned into a mass brawl, in which the youths from Changshatian village used iron bars, rocks and machetes to fight with Zhonghuo village youth in the middle of the "triangle street" During the fight, Zhonghuo resident Zhong Guangshen sustained serious injuries and died. The Zhonghuo villagers blamed the police for not taking action against the perpetrators, and that was why they laid siege to the police station.
