National Leaders in a Train Ride

Singaporeans will love this one! But our Malaysian, Pakistan and Filipino friends should also appreciate the humour!

General Musharraf, Dr Mahathir, Gloria Arroyo & Lee Kuan Yew were sitting in a train.

The train goes through a tunnel and it gets completely dark for the next 8 seconds.

Suddenly there is a loud kissing sound and then a slap! The train comes out of the tunnel. Arroyo and Musharraf are seated across each other, both looking perplexed.

Mahathir, seated across LKY, is bent over holding his face, which is very red from an apparent big slap. All of them remain diplomatic and nobody says anything.

Musharraf is thinking: 'These Malaysians are all crazy after Arroyo. Mahathir must have tried to kiss her in the tunnel. Very proper that she slapped him !'

Arroyo is thinking: 'Mahathir must have moved to kiss me, but kissed Musharraf instead and got slapped.'

Mahathir is thinking: 'Damn it, Musharraf must have tried to kiss Arroyo; she thought it was me and slapped me instead. Shit !!'

Lee Kuan Yew is thinking: 'If this train goes through one more tunnel, I could make another kissing sound and slap Mahathir again !!'

Only 435 Restaurants Authorised to Collect Service Tax

I'm sure many Malaysians were frustrated when it was announced that the 5% service tax need not be paid (with certain exceptions imposed by the Royal Malaysian Customs) with effect from 1 July 2008 but were clueless as to which Malaysian restaurants or cafes have been exempted from doing so.

NOW - you need not crack your head anymore in questioning the restaurants or cafes' operators' rights to collect the 5% service tax.

Click here to download the list of restaurants or cafes still authorised (only 435 of them)

Your rights as a resident of Malaysia (irrespective of nationality):-

1. The public can decline to pay service tax to restaurant owners who fail to display their service tax license issued by the Royal Malaysian Customs.
2. The public have the rights to demand for receipts or invoices indicating that the 5% Service Tax payment or 5% tax inclusive payment has been made.

If you have been forced to pay the 5% service tax even though their name is not in the list, please do the nation a favour as in report the incident at cd@customs.gov.my or kastam@customs.gov.my or to the Head of the Internal Revenue Division at the respective states’ Customs offices.

Remember this, you have a hand in deciding how Malaysian business will operate with integrity.

Aftermath of Beijing Olympics

If China does not apply to host the Olympics, they say that the European and American countries are rich and strong and they apply regularly, whereas poor China can only watch from the sidelines.

If China applies to host the Olympics but loses out, they say that China should be embarrassed for applying when it is unqualified.

If China applies to host the Olympics and wins the bid, they say that China should be embarrassed for expending its national resources on an image project.

If the opening ceremony in China is not good, they say that the director is lousy and the Chinese people are of poor quality.

If the opening ceremony in China turns out to be good, they say that billions of dollars were wasted.

If China runs the Olympics frugally, they say that the Chinese government is embarrassing the nation in front of the world by running the Olympics when it cannot afford to.

If China runs the Olympics lavishly, they say that the Chinese government is wasting taxpayers' money on the Olympics.

If we don't understand the opening ceremony in a foreign country, they say that we don't understand other people's culture.
If we understand the opening ceremony in a foreign country, they say that the foreign culture is just too grand and unversal.
If foreigners don't understand the opening ceremony in China, they say that we are uncultured.
If foreigners understand the opening ceremony in China, they say that it must have been too shallow and superficial.

Before the Olympics, they say that China won't get a lot of gold medals because the Chinese athletes are inferior to the Europeans and Americans.
If China gets too few gold medals, they say that China is a weak sports nation with frail people, whereas the Europeans and Americans have fine people who win plenty of gold.
If China gets too many gold medals, they say that it is due to a distorted system of sports administration and it does not prove that China or its people are strong.

If foreign athletes game the rules, they say that it is smartness.
If foreign athletes do not game the rules, they say that it is strength.
If Chinese athletes game the rules, they say that China is sly.
If Chinese athletes do not game the rules, they say that China is very stupid.

If a foreign nation wins many medals in a sport, they say that the foreign athletes are gifted and strong.
If China wins many medals in a story, they say that this is against the spirit of the games and the sports ought to be eliminated from the Olympics.

If a foreign nation does not administer/manage sports, they say that developed countries do not do that.
If China does not administer/manage sports, they say that China is backwards for not doing that.

If foreign athletes pay for their own training, they say that this shows the sporting spirit without spending taxpayers' money.
If Chinese athletes pay for their own training, they say that China does not value sports.

If a foreign nation wins only one gold medal, they say that it is just a gold medal which does not really matter.
If China wins only one gold medal, they ask how can China win only one gold when it has a population of 1.3 billion?

If a foreign athlete makes a basic mistake, they say that the spirit of sports is about participation and losers can still enjoy the Olympics.
If a Chinese athlete makes a basic mistake, they say that the pressure was too big and Chinese athletes are not mentally ready.

If a foreign athlete cries after winning a medal, they say that this is a genuine expression of the Olympic spirit.
If a Chinese athlete cries after winning a medal, they say that it is the result of the over-emphasis on winning medals.

If the foreign athlete is a university student, they say that this is an amateur as distinct from the professional Chinese athletes.
If a Chinese athlete is a university student, they say that someone should not be allowed to attend university because of sporting talents.

If a foreign athlete makes a TV ad, they say that this is a commercial activity which funds the training.
If a Chinese athlete makes a TV ad, they wonder how can any good results be achieved when money is the most important factor?

If China wins too few gold medals, they say that China is not good enough.
If China wins too many gold medals, they say wonder what gold medals are good for and they want the money to be given to socially vulnerable groups.
If China wins too many gold medals, they say that the ranking should be based upon the total number of all medals because that is the true reflection of the sporting level.
If China leads in count of total medals, they say that the ranking should be based upon the number of medals per capital because that is the true reflection of sporting level among the people.
If China leads in number of medals per capital, they say that China has a national sports system and therefore China should be embarrassed to compare itself against amateur athletes.

In the end, China got the most number of gold medals. They say, "What good is that to me? I am not getting a pay raise or a new house as a result."

You just cannot please everyone.

Did this Toyota Vios driver parked according to the three cars at the front?

Was the driver a handicap person? If not, this person has some handicap on the eyesight as in parking in the middle of two parking lots reserved for the handicaps.

Duty at Roy Durman's Healing Crusade

The musicians getting themselves into the mood with the worship singers (in white) getting ready. On Saturday and Sunday evenings, I was assigned the duty of being a counsellor. In between, still managed to squeeze a few shots.
Service started with praise and worship and followed by announcements of various events / happenings.
This Indian lady's legs were weak when she came and through God's healing power, she managed to walk on stage to show God's strength upon her.

These are the people that came up for healing on the deaf and dumb situation.

A few people were chosen by Roy Durman to go up on stage for healing of their deaf and dumb situation.

People that fell under the power of God.

This was Patrick Leong (left) who came to sing two songs before we started the healing crusade on Sunday evening.

Death Or 86 Wives?

If you were a given choice to choose, either 86 ladies or death, which one would you choose?

For men generally, where could you get 86 ladies at one go at your mercy ...... hehehe. But one of our brothers in Nigeria was able to do so. As blogged previously on Mohammed Bello Abubakar (aged 84), the Islamic authorities have given him an ultimatum, choose 4 wives out of the 86 ladies that he has with him now or the death penalty will await him.

Hmmmmmm that's going to be a big headache for him. He was supposed to have chosen the lucky 4 ladies where the deadline was yesterday.

He could be challenging the Islamic authorities in the sharia court as to which part of the Koran has placed a limit on the number of wives but he quoted that it was up to what your own power, your own endowment and ability allows.

A Christian for the Ages

One of my all time favorite movies with a Christian theme is the 1981 film entitled 'Chariots of Fire' a story about two runners, one a Jewish Englishman named Harold Abrams, one a Scottish Evangelical named Eric Liddle who both did remarkable things at the 1924 Olympics in Paris. NBC and Mary Carillo this afternoon did a wonderful tribute to Liddle, which if you can find on their website you should watch it. What Carillo rightly points out, is that Liddle was the first athlete born in China (of missionary parents in 1902) to win a gold medal at any Olympics.

Eric Liddle lived a short life (1902-45), but the importance of a life cannot be measured in its quantity, rather it must be measured in its quality, and as Carillo movingly said, "most athletes come to the games desiring to be great and do great, Eric Liddle came to the Paris Olympics desiring to be good, and to do good." Liddle famously refused to run in the race that was his speciality because the heat was on Sunday, and he was a strict Scottish sabbitarian. Even the pleas from the royal family went on deaf ears. This was a great blow to Britain recovering from WWI as Liddle was undoubtedly the best in the world in 100M. But his old rival whom he had beaten in that very distance before, Harold Abrams, ran and won the race for Great Britain. Liddle however was persuaded to run the 400 meters. As his daughter Patrica Russell tells the story, the thing was he ran it as if it was the 100 meters. He ran it like an all out sprint, smashing the world record, winning by a comfortable margin. There is a famous line in the movie 'Chariots of Fire' where Eric's sister is arguing with him about his going to Paris instead of going instantly to the mission field in China. Eric's response was memorable, "God has made me to be a missionary, aye, but he has made me fast, and when I run, I feel God's pleasure". I know exactly what he means, having been a runner most of my life. When I ran the Boston Marathon in 1993 on an unusually hot muggy day in April, I came down to the last few miles on fumes, and kept saying to myself "are you running with me Jesus", "are you running with me".

Eric Liddle after the Paris Olympics did return to the country of his birth, China, where he was a missionary. Unfortunately, China was invaded by Japan, and Liddle had to send his family home to Canada (his wife was Canadian), and he himself ended up in a concentration camp with many others 300 miles south of Beijing. In the camp he pastored and taught and loved his fellow inmates. In the Carillo piece, one of the interees said that Liddle taught him that he must pray for the Japanese who had done this to them, for the NT says 'pray for those who persecute you'. Liddle was a genuinely Christian person from start to finish in his 43 years of life. Only six months before the liberation of China by the Allies in 1945, Eric Liddle became suddenly ill, and then died. He had a massive brain tumor. To this day, the Chinese do not erect monuments to foreigners on their soil, but they made an exception for an exceptional man who called two nations his home. Still today you can see the monument erected with an English script and a cross on it honoring Eric Liddle for his good work in China.

Though what Michael Phelps accomplished at this Olympics will long redound to his glory, what Eric Liddle did both at the 1924 Olympics and throughout his life will redound to God's glory, and, as those bonny Scots would say, "that's more than a wee bit greater."

PCC 20th Anniversary

With my church's 20th Anniversary Dinner approaching (on 21 Sept), preparations to get certain things done have to be rushed. One of them being the videos in bringing you certain memories or trying to highlight other things. The forthcoming dinner has a sports theme. The stuff we do will be related to sports too.
Some came early and waited at the church office.

When everyone was there, we lighted up the torch. Yeah, we had our own too. Playing the same tune with the on-going Beijing Olympics.

Our director on the right and the wise videoman.

Real run for our torch bearer with his accompanying runners. The videoman's hand was sticking out of the moving car.
Ooooooops!!!! Ran out of burning stuff before the end of our video shooting.
The rest of the crews. Toiling under heavy drizzle on a Saturday afternoon.
This two ladies were afraid of getting wet .......

Noticed this dead rat on the railings. Then some just realised they were resting on this railing earlier ...... yucks!

I have taken lots of photos but cannot release it for more will be revealed in the forthcoming dinner. Cheers!

Lousy Public Transportation - PM

That's what our Malaysian Prime Minister wanted to say, lousy public transportation, but the mainstream media has to be polite with the words as it will be read by the world at large.

He boarded the commuter train and the light rail transit during the morning peak hour period. After trying it for almost one hour, he was at the conclusion that the system need some changes. Hello sir, my due respect, you have been the Deputy Prime Minister and Prime Minister for a number of years now and you have just discovered the plight faced by the general public in the capital city of Malaysia.

It's no doubt that even the light rail transit that has been operating for so long can't even put things right. True enough that the number of coaches are not sufficient. What's the point of building such a large platform that could accommodate more coaches that comes into each station. Might as well build a smaller platform in the beginning.

Moreover the general public can recognise you. Try wearing a baseball cap, dress in a t-shirt with jeans (your bodyguards are to dress the same) and try boarding it again at 6pm. You'll be shocked. Guess you won't be as it took you so many years to know about this.

Don't just try the commuter and light rail transit. Try the public buses and taxis as well. So, before your parliament or the city council decides to implement any new and stupid traffic system that limits private motor vehicles into the city, please remember this day.

How Big is Your Family?

How big is your family in terms of the number of people? Mine is small indeed. My parents gave birth to two of us only, me and my younger sister.

Two generations above me, my grandparents' era, have different thinking or maybe the cost of living was much lower in raising up kids. Those era would see five to ten kids in one family. Initially it would be taxing on the parents but as they grow up and with the grandkids coming along, it would be fun when it comes to a family gathering. Not all big families will have happy ending. Some will treat their siblings as enemies, a tragedy indeed.

But I'm quite sure that nobody could beat this guy in Nigeria. Mohammed Bello Abubakar could be trying to register himself with the Guinness World of Records for his feat, having a total of 86 wives.

Great idea? What's in him that attracted those women to him? If it was money I would understand but it wasn't to be. This guy has no job and none of his wives too. He needs US$915 (approx. RM3,020) to feed his family daily. Rumours have it that his children are out in the streets to beg and on a good day, they could bring in US$290.

Was it sex that drew their affection towards him? Mine you, with 86 wives and proper rotation a wife could only have him for four days in a year.

Apparently, some of the wives fell for him for his healing powers. Islamic authorities in Nigeria have labelled his family as a cult. Who are the cult members - his 86 wives and 170 children.

He has one advise for the men in the world. No, not the sexual advise part but he reminded men not to follow his footsteps unless you have the same strength as his which was given by god.

Eleven Digits for Malaysian Mobiles

As Malaysia's mobile technology is going to implement the Mobile Number Portability (MNP), mobile users will get to change to whichever mobile service provider whenever they want and yet, get to keep their same mobile number.

According to the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998, the new numbering and electronic addressing shall be available to the public at a fee to be decided by the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission.

Now for the best part, you will get a new number for this process. Currently, all mobile phone numbers are in seven digits. Upon this new implementation, your new mobile number will an additional digit.

Subject to you subscribing for the MNP, you will be assigned with another three new digits. Whether they will add that four digits before or after your current number, it has not been mentioned yet.

I don't think it's a problem to all mobile users. Those days without the mobile technology, I could remember a number of my friends' house telephone numbers. Nowadays, I can't recall almost all of my friends' numbers, be it house or mobile. Thanks to the technology of phone memory. My excuse - it frees my brain in storing those complicated phone numbers and brain could be put to better use for other issues (some friends who will read this will surely say - you mean you have a brain?).
All this will happen by end of the year after many months (or years?) of delays. Delays due to ??? Let's see which mobile telco will win this service provider war with the MNP in place.

Amazing Plots in Indian Movies

Once, an Englishman Newton came to India and watched a few Indian movies that had his head spinning. He was convinced that all his logic and laws in physics were just a huge pile of junk and apologized for everything he had done.

Here are a few scenes:-
1) In one of the fights, Rajanikanth is shot in the head. To everybody's surprise, the bullet passes through his ears taking away the tumor along with it and he is cured! Long Live Rajanikanth!

2) In another movie, Rajanikanth is confronted with 3 gangsters. Rajanikanth has a gun but unfortunately only one bullet and a knife.

Guess, what he does?

He throws the knife at the middle gangster & shoots the bullet towards the knife. The knife cuts the bullet into 2 pieces, which kills both the gangsters on each side of the middle gangster & the knife kills the middle one.

3) Rajanikanth is chased by a gangster. Rajanikanth has a revolver but no bullets in it. Guess, what he does. Nah? not even in your remotest imaginations.

He waits for the gangster to shoot. As soon as the gangster shoots, Rajanikanth opens the bullet compartment of his revolver and catches the bullet. Then, he closes the bullet compartment and fires his gun.

Bang... the gangster dies...

Happened to see another movie for one last time, and thought that at least one movie would follow the theory of physics. The whole movie goes fine and the patrons are happy that all in the world hasn't changed. Oops, not so fast!

The 'climax' finally arrives.

Rajanikanth gets to know that the villain is on the other side of a very high wall. So high that Rajanikanth can't jump even if he tries like one of those superman techniques that our heroes normally use. Rajanikanth has to desperately kill the villain because it's the climax.

(Patrons are smiling since it is virtually impossible?)

Rajanikanth suddenly pulls two guns from his pockets. He throws one gun in the air and when the gun has reached above the height of the wall, he uses the second gun and shoots at the trigger of the first gun in the air. The first gun fires off and hits the villain and the villain is dead.

THE END

Confusing Olympics Medal Standing

The Beijing 2008 Olympic Games is heating up in many sports arenas throughout a few cities in China. No doubt that we can see from the total number of athletes' participation that both USA and China would be going all out in their respective sports to compete for the number one position in the medal standing.

Who would dare to bet against China in not getting the number one position for the first time in Olympics history by looking at the current medal standing. But USA is catching up and with their athletics taking up positions in the track and fields' events, surely they will threaten China's current number one position.

But what am I talking about? What catching up with China? In Fox Sports, USA is already shown as the number one nation in the medal standing. Fox Sports took into consideration the total number of medals won (be it gold or silver or bronze). Fox Sports-shares owned by USA interests-obvious!

When you read the official Beijing 2008 website, the medal standing showed otherwise where China is the top nation. Obviously, this website is maintained by China web administrators.Which medal standing do you support?

For me, I'll adopt the medal standing which rates the nations according to their number of gold medals first. There are 302 gold medals to be won. Imagine USA was to win all the 302 golds and China won the rest of the 604 silvers and bronzes, will China be accepted as the number one in the medal standing?

My Journey Back to Home Ground

Left Khartoum on Sunday night after a long delay at the airport. My Emirates Airlines plane was supposed to depart at 7.20pm (local time) but the wonderful plane landed just before that and passengers were only alighting from the airplane at 7.20pm.

In such case, I would expect a forty minutes wait for the plane to be cleaned. At 8.05pm, we were boarding our plane but were seated in it till 8.45pm before the captain announced that we will be on our way. My my.

Arrived at Dubai around 1am plus. The colourful wall that you can see here is actually the outer design of a bus. It has not opened its doors yet at that point of time.

Our plane stopped about five minutes away from the main terminal. Peak timing during midnight at Dubai airport.

The plane from Khartoum was packed and this scenario in the bus was just like a public bus. Went straight to the transfer desk to obtain my boarding pass for my connecting flight at 10.20am. That's how crazy it was. Me and my two other colleagues were amongst the first to be at the counter and we were the last to leave the counter. That was way past 2am.

Arrived at Millenium Airport Hotel to be checked in and only managed to drop dead on bed at 3am. By 7.45am, we woke to go over to the airport.

The Dubai city scenery seen from my bedroom. Not facing the city centre where there are lots of towering buildings.

The buildings (two storeys) right in front of me is the Dubai International School which comprise several blocks. Owing to the huge expats found in Dubai, such international schools are really huge.

That's the Dubai Metro railway, under construction to meet the congestive traffic throughout Dubai city.

At 10.20am, it's time for my flight back to home sweet home. The control tower located on the right hand side of the picture.

Human traffic jam while entering the plane. It was a Boeing 777 model.

They were still pumping fuel into my airplane while I was boarding it.

Seated besides me was a beautiful four year old girl (I think) from the Middle Eastern region. I was seated at the aisle seat while she was at my right and her parents were on her right. The mother who was beside her couldn't care less about her. She was poking the TV screen on the seat in front of her.

She was totally excited with that flight. Moving here and there. Kicked my leg unknowingly. I couldn't stand it any longer. When it came to meal time, I threw some sleeping pills into her food without her parent's knowledge.

She knocked out for the rest of the flight. Peace at last!

My beautiful Kuala Lumpur International Airport building. It was just a pretty sight.

Why Bill Gates Decides to Sell Off Microsoft?

Letter from Banta Singh to Mr. Bill Gates
Subject: Problems with my new computer

Dear Mr. Bill Gates,
We have bought a computer for our home and we have found some problems, which I want to bring to your notice.

1. There is a button 'start' but there is no 'stop' button. We request you to check this.

2. One doubt is whetherany 're-scooter' is available in system? I find only 're-cycle', but I own a scooter at my home.

3. There is 'Find' button but it is not working properly. My wife lost the door key and we tried a lot trace the key with this 'find' button, but was unable to trace. Please rectify this problem.

4. My child learnt 'Microsoft word' now he wants to learn 'Microsoft sentence', so when you will provide that?

5. I bought computer, CPU, mouse and keyboard, but there is only one icon which shows 'My Computer': when you will povide the remaining items?

6. It is surprising that windows says 'My Pictures' but there is not even a single photo of mine. So when will you keep my photo in that.

7. There is 'MICROSOFT OFFICE' what about 'MICROSOFT HOME' since I use the PC at home only.

8. You provided 'My Recent Documents'. When you will provide 'My Past Documents'?

9. You provide 'My Network Places'. For God sake please do not provide 'My Secret Places'. I do not want to let my wife know where I go after my office hours.

Last one to Mr. Bill Gates: Sir, how is it that your name is Gates but you are selling WINDOWS?

Empowerment Seminar

Just one week before I left Sudan, my fellow church mates came together for an Empowerment Seminar for the Creative Ministry members. I was in charge of games and as usual must plan torturing games ....... haha

Yeah Yeah, too bad ..... I'm arranging so no choice.

This game started with two persons locking their arms while leaning on each other's back. Next, start to stand up with the arms still locked.

As the pair is able to stand up, they have to look for the next pair who has succeeded. As with this group, there are eight persons trying to stand up together. The moral - the more the easier to stand up together. In tune with the seminar where I was trying to tell them that teamwork is important.
These are the books that were recommended to be read which will empower us in the Creative Ministry.
Group prayers.
How come I wasn't praying then? Curi ayam ke?
