Malaysians may have to fork out more money for a new toll system in Malayisa. The success of the current system for the Smart Tag has spurred the Works Ministry to come out with better ideas to produce a much improved gadget.I wonder whether the owners of the current Smart Tag (I'm one off them) will get to exchange and/or top up with additional money to obtain the latest gadget (which is under trial run at the moment).
I got my Smart Tag at RM100 during a promotion previously (as shown in pic). Initially it was being retailed at RM200. The current gadget are being used by many many many road users (ain't this a waste of money for common citizens). Not only that for users would be wasting money but the government will have to install additional electronic stuff at all toll plazas to accommodate another new toll system. Not replacing, mind you!
They mentioned that road users could also purchase this new unit and the current Smart Tag could still be used. This new unit's plus point - could record payment at high speed. What high speed? It won't miss recording a motor vehicle's new gadget even if the car was travelling at 100km per hour. That is total madness.
Imagine driving towards the toll plaza at 100km per hour and squeeze into the tight toll lane. Lorries and buses would be crashing through all the toll plazas in Malaysia with that speed.

have you tried crossing the toll at 100kph? i'm really curious to see if it works at that speed. and if it doesnt scan, free pass!! lol
Before smart tag was Plus tag. and now dunno what tag. i can hear my mom ranting about this soon.
Etiqa is an insurance company. its just advertising their brand on the touch n go card thats all.
and do u know, after 10 years, ur touch and go card will so called 'expire' and u need to pay RM 10 to so call 'reactivate' it back.

I think they are trying to follow some system that Dubai is using. In Dubai, you don't have to stop at toll booths. It can record payment at high speed. Well I hope we can do it here too. So fed up of lining up at Smart Tag lanes when the smart tags of some drivers doesn't work or censor unable to scan.

How much does this gadget cost?..hopely it is affordable for all or else it will still be touch&go for most of us..
its good it can be tagged to a car. actually, all cars should be fixed with this (pre loaded)... and tolls should be replaced with drive thru gantries.

blowfly - u are dry but someone else pocket wld be filled
eiling - its a frust at times when u need to reverse yr car or due to others situation. well, in dubai they can record at high speed but dont forget, dubai's accident is so high
ted - yeah, at 100km per hr right at the toll plaza. saves time!!
