Fined by Police After Accident

This is my friend's account on what happened to him recently. He posted the article in Star Online Blog and received a number of comments too.
--------------------------------------

Is it fair to be fined RM300 in road accident?
Yesterday morning I was driving in Kerinchi link heading towards TTDI, I was driving within speed limit but at the 2nd last turning before raeching toll my car skidded and lost control. After spinning for a round, luckily I managed to stopped the car and escape unscathed. Anf I continued on the journey to meet my friends.

Minutes later, I received a phone call from the friend I'm supposed to meet. She was driving at the same road and skidded at the same place. Unfortunately for her, her car rammed to the side concrete wall and unable to move on. Her car need to be towed away.

According to her, there were 3 cars before her and 1 car plus 2 motorcycle after her all met with the same fate. It was clearly that there's something wrong with that stretch of road and nothing to do with speeding or driver's fault.

Now the worst is yet to come, because when she went to make a police report she was fined RM300! It doesn't make any sense to me why she was fined when she obeyed all the rules, and all this accidents happening at the same place clearly indicates that the management of Kerinchi did not do a proper job to keep the road in a safe condition.

My question is, is it right or is it fair for her to be fined?

Useful Electrical Gadgets for House

Some of you may know about such electrical gadgets but some may not know.

The Selcon sensor (3 Ampere) produced by Kaga Inc. in Japan could sense day or night is useful if it's attached to an external light.

Come night time, the sensor will sense lesser light and it will automatically switch on that particular light. It will switch off once enough day time light is detected in the morning.

It comes in pairs and I got two, one for the porch light and one for a backlane light. Going at RM40 per pair.

Besides that, I got three units of Hager timer, made in France. Going at RM85 per unit.

This timer could be set to make certain lightings or electrical equipment (e.g. radio) to be switched on at or off after certain hours. That's like assuming someone's at home. It works like the Selcon sensor as you need to attach it to a particular light switch or power point.

Where did I buy such gadgets? It was from G&H Electrical Trading Sdn Bhd at Lorong Yap Hin, just a road behind RHB Bank Berhad, Jalan Pasar Branch.

The boss was known to my electrician. You need contacts to get stuff at a lower pricing.

The dry kitchen has taken its shape with the slim concrete table.

The neighbour at the back may have gotten a renovation contractor that is quite busy.

The Indonesian workers knocked the last piece of wall down but didn't build the brickwall fast enough to protect the house. The workers dug up a bit of the ground and laid some cement and disappeared for at least two days.

Such construction method may not be good to build a good wall / extension foundation.

World's First Flying Hotel

You have the biggest passenger airlines in terms of the Airbus A380. As time comes, you'll be seeing a big bird of a different specie. It's a helicopter this time.

Hotelicopter, that's what it is called.

The hotelicopter's body is based on the former Soviet's Mil V-12 (those who are young in age may not find Soviet in the world map now.

For its size, the hotelicopter is using four GEnx turbofan engines to lift it up to the sky. The specs are:-
* Dimensions Length: 42 m (137 ft)
* Height: 28m (91 ft)
* Maximum Takeoff Weight: 105850 kg (232,870 lb)
* Maximum speed: 255 km/h (137 kt) (158 miles/h)
* Cruising speed: 237 km/h (127 kt) (147 miles/h)
* Original Mi Range: 515 km (320 mi)
* Our augmented Mi Range - 1,296 km (700 mi)

Its amenities and facilities are similar to those found in a five star hotel.

The cabins and suites have similar designs with Yotel's rooms that are found in the airports of London and Amsterdam. Copied their designs?

Just fyi, even if you have money you may not get a ride in the hotelicopter.

Churches & Squirrels

There were five country churches in a small Texas town, the Presbyterian Church, the Baptist Church, the Methodist Church, the Catholic Church and the Jewish Synagogue.

Each church and synagogue was overrun with pesky squirrels.

One day, the Presbyterian Church called a meeting to decide what to do about the squirrels. After much prayer and consideration they determined that the squirrels were predestined to be there and they shouldn't interfere with God's divine will.

In the Baptist Church, the squirrels had taken up habitation in the baptistery. The deacons met and decided to put a cover on the baptistery and drown the squirrels in it. The squirrels escaped somehow and there were twice as many there the next week.

The Methodist Church got together and decided that they were not in a position to harm any of God's creation. So, they humanely trapped the squirrels and set them free a few miles outside of town. Three days later, the squirrels were back.

But -- The Catholic Church came up with the best and most effective solution. They baptized the squirrels and registered them as members of the church. Now they only see them on Christmas and Easter.

Not much was heard about the Jewish Synagogue, but they took one squirrel and had a short service with him called circumcision and they haven't seen a squirrel on the property since.

The Tablecloth

Something nice for you to read ....... beautiful story.... makes you understand that things happen for a reason
--------------------------------------

The brand new pastor and his wife, newly assigned to their first ministry, to reopen a church in suburban Brooklyn, arrived in early October excited about their opportunities. When they saw their church, it was very run down and needed much work. They set a goal to have everything done in time to have their first service on Christmas Eve.

They worked hard, repairing pews, plastering walls, painting, etc, and on December 18
were ahead of schedule and just about finished.

On December 19 a terrible tempest - a driving rainstorm hit the area and lasted for two days.

On the 21st, the pastor went over to the church. His heart sank when he saw that the roof had leaked, causing a large area of plaster about 20 feet by 8 feet to fall off the front wall of the sanctuary just behind the pulpit, beginning about head high.

The pastor cleaned up the mess on the floor, and not knowing what else to do but postpone
the Christmas Eve service, headed home. On the way he noticed that a local business was
having a flea market type sale for charity, so he stopped in. One of the items was a beautiful, handmade, ivory colored, crocheted tablecloth with exquisite work, fine colors and a Cross embroidered right in the center. It was just the right size to cover the hole in the front wall. He bought it and headed back to the church.

By this time it had started to snow. An older woman running from the opposite direction was trying to catch the bus. She missed it. The pastor invited her to wait in the warm church for the next bus 45 minutes later.

She sat in a pew and paid no attention to the pastor while he got a ladder, hangers, etc., to put up the tablecloth as a wall tapestry. The pastor could hardly believe how beautiful it looked and it covered up the entire problem area.

Then he noticed the woman walking down the center aisle. Her face was like a sheet. "Pastor," she asked, "where did you get that tablecloth?" The pastor explained. The woman asked him to check the lower right corner to see if the initials, EBG were crocheted into it there. They were. These were the initials of the woman, and she had made this tablecloth 35 years before, in Austria.

The woman could hardly believe it as the pastor told how he had just gotten "The Tablecloth". The woman explained that before the war she and her husband were well-to-do people in Austria.

When the Nazis came, she was forced to leave. Her husband was going to follow her the next week. He was captured, sent to prison and never saw her husband or her home again.

The pastor wanted to give her the tablecloth; but she made the pastor keep it for the church. The pastor insisted on driving her home. That was the least he could do. She lived on the other side of Staten Island and was only in Brooklyn for the day for a house cleaning job.

What a wonderful service they had on Christmas Eve. The church was almost full. The music and the spirit were great. At the end of the service, the pastor and his wife greeted everyone at the door and many said that they would return.

One older man, whom the pastor recognized from the neighborhood continued to sit in one of the pews and stare, and the pastor wondered why he wasn't leaving.

The man asked him where he got the tablecloth on the front wall because it was identical to one that his wife had made years ago when they lived in Austria before the war and how
could there be two tablecloths so much alike?

He told the pas tor how the Nazis came, how he forced his wife to flee for her safety and he was supposed to follow her, but he was arrested and put in a prison. He never saw his wife or his home again all the 35 years between.

The pastor asked him if he would allow him to take him for a little ride. They drove to Staten Island and to the same house where the pastor had taken the woman three days earlier.

He helped the man climb the three flights of stairs to the woman's apartment, knocked on
the door and he saw the greatest Christmas reunion he could ever imagine.

His love is always with you. His promises are true, and when we give Him all our
cares we know He will see us through.

So when the road you're traveling seems difficult at best, just remember I'm here
praying and God will do the rest.

Been To This Famous Street?

I noticed a new eatery in KLIA lately with the name of the famous Jalan Alor. "Jalan" is in the malay language which is "Street" in english language.

I didn't check what they were selling but I assumed that the food served in it would be those found in the actual Jalan Alor. Same quality? Will try when I go overseas next round.

Even the airport management has agreed to have such restaurant with a famous name known to locals and many tourists who frequent this street.

Somehow and somewhere, this famous street name was changed without people knowing. Who changed it? It was the local council, DBKL.

When the news was published, it created an uproar from the business owners, restaurants, stall owners, traders, residents, locals and even tourists requested for the name to be maintained.

People's power won! Never consult and didn't even think properly before doing something, that's the consequences. Name was reverted to the famous Jalan Alor with no choice. This street name was there even before I was born ........... and I was born near Jalan Alor .... at Chinese Maternity Hospital (if you know where lah and yes, I'm a 101% local boy).

Imagine the street name was changed, this restaurant at the airport won't be there too but maybe under a different unknown name.

Theme Parks to Bring in Tourists

Malaysia is trying hard to compete against its neighbouring countries, Thailand and Singapore to be precise, for tourists that prefer to travel and tour around this region.

The rumours of Disneyland coming to our shore didn't materialise but the government found investors to bring in the Legoland Park. This park will be situated at the much hyped Iskandar Malaysia where it will be opened to the public in 2013. I'm not pouring cold water on the project but there's nothing spectacular about this park.

How will this one theme park bring in the bulk of the tourists?

OK never mind, we'll go for another one then ............. Malaysia can't attract the likes of Disneyland or Universal Studio (which will be opening up in Singapore soon) so we have to go for whoever we can grab.

We managed to grab KidZania (never heard of it till it was reported) all the way from Mexico. Wow, another theme park? I don't think so but it's being painted as if it's going to be one.

It will only require a space of 60,000 sq ft and a small building is just nice enough to host this "theme park". I would say that this theme park will only cater for Malaysians and I doubt that it will create a hoo haa effect till it will attract overseas tourists or even kids from our neighbouring countries.

This Kidzania, to be situated at Mutiara Damansara, will be opened for business in 2012 and entrance fees based on Indonesia's Kidzania could be in the range of US$12 to US$13 for children (depending on the age group) and US$9 for adults. Yeah, for once the kids will cost more than the adults.

Will the parents bring their kids to this new theme park a few times in a year?
