2006 UBS Study "Prices and Earnings"
A global comparison of purchasing power in 71 cities around the world.
Four European cities and Tokyo most expensive - highest wages in Scandinavia, Switzerland and the US.
Oslo, London, Copenhagen, Zurich and Tokyo are the world’s most expensive cities. With the highest net wages, Zurich and Geneva, followed by Dublin, Los Angeles and Luxembourg, lead the pack in purchasing power.
People in Asia work the longest hours – almost 50 days more per year than Western Europeans. Asian workers at least partially compensate for low purchasing power through longer working hours.

The UBS study "Prices and Earnings" shows that life is particularly expensive in London and New York if the cost of housing is included. The basket of goods and services costs the least in Kuala Lumpur, Mumbai, Delhi and Buenos Aires.

The Growth of Blogs
, Just when the Malaysian government has talked about restricting internet linkages due to recent unwanted or incorrect information found in various blogs, below is the state of blogoshpere reported under Technorati, a blog tracker (where it traces my blog too).
As at 31 July 2006:-
* Technorati is now tracking over 50 Million Blogs.
* The Blogosphere is over 100 times bigger than it was just 3 years ago.
* Today, the blogosphere is doubling in size every 200 days, or about once every 6 and a half months.
* From January 2004 until July 2006, the number of blogs that Technorati tracks has continued to double every 5-7 months.
* About 175,000 new weblogs were created each day, which means that on average, there are more than 2 blogs created each second of each day.
* About 8% of new blogs get past Technorati’s filters, even if it is only for a few hours or days.
* About 70% of the pings Technorati receives are from known spam sources, but we drop them before we have to send out a spider to go and index the splog.
* Total posting volume of the blogosphere continues to rise, showing about 1.6 Million postings per day, or about 18.6 posts per second.
* This is about double the volume of about a year ago.
* The most prevalent times for English-language posting is between the hours of 10am and 2pm Pacific time, with an additional spike at around 5pm Pacific time.
If the government intends to restrict blogs, Malaysia would be taking a regressive mode in terms of technology in the world. Advisable move? Most items stated in blogs would have been relied on the mainstream media. There is a close relationship between blogs and mainstream media.

Edinburgh Festival Fringe 2006
Edinburgh Festival Fringe 2006, being held from 6-28 August 2006, is the world's biggest arts festival.* Fringe 2006 features 28,014 performances of 1,867 shows in 261 venues (Fringe 2005 featured 26,995 performances of 1,799 shows in 240 venues).
* An estimated 16,990 performers will be on Edinburgh’s Fringe stages.
* Theatre makes up 32% of the programme, followed by Comedy (27%) then Music (21%). Musicals, Children’s Shows, Dance & Physical Theatre, Exhibitions and Events each provide around 4% of the programme.
* Over a third (36%) of all shows are World premieres. 4% are UK premieres, 10% European premieres.
* 177 shows at Fringe 2006 are absolutely free.
* It would take you 5 years, 11 months and 16 days to see every performance back-to-back.
* Last year, the Fringe sold 1,338,550 tickets - the third time and third consecutive year that the Fringe sailed past the million-ticket barrier.
* The Fringe has a 75% market share of all attendance at Edinburgh’s year-round festivals and annually generates around £75 million for the Edinburgh and Scottish economy.
* The Fringe sells 97% more tickets than it did only 10 years ago (679,147 in 1995, 1338,550 in 2005).
* In 2006, there will be 28,014 performances - 94% more performances than 10 years ago.

"SEPET" the Movie
If you could recall the local Malaysian movie production of "Sepet" relating to one Chinese boy going after the heart of one Malay girl. Seems that the famed producer, Yasmin Ahmad, didn't budge even though she was urged, both directly and indirectly, to stop messing about with our "culture" and start preserving it. Granted, the demands were made mostly by people of questionable intellectual agility. But one must be fair, mustn't one, and give all suggestions due consideration.
Yasmin, after giving a thought to it for 2 whole seconds laughed over it. Below is the multi-racial cast and crew members of Sepet:-

Dr Jemilah Mahmood, founder and President of MERCY Malaysia, and to Yasmin's mind the greatest woman ever to walk on Malaysian soil, would proudly announce to anyone who cared to listen that she was born of a Malay father and a Chinese mother. A regular "Sepet" baby, you might say.
To me, this is MALAYISA, TRULY ASIA, the theme broadcasted by the Tourism Ministry's overseas' advertisement. And if you click at Sepet's website, just look at the credentials the movie has obtained.
