How Fast a Stolen Car Could be Changed

A stolen Porsche was brought into a workshop for transformation within hours of being stolen.

Ta daaaaaaa! A blue Porsche that could be transported out of the country easily or even driven in the public without being recognised.

Beijing Opens World's Largest Airport

Beijing, China has opened up its latest airport wing, Terminal 3, at its existing airport to the world aviation today.

The Terminal 3 received its first commercial flight from a local destination.

The size of this Terminal 3 alone is bigger than London's Heathrow Airport's 5 terminals being put together. Its length is 3 kilometres. With the operation of this new terminal, it's supposed to serve 85 million passengers.

Most Oldest People on Earth

When I tried to trace the country where it has the most oldest people, I did a search on Japan first and they were known for having the oldest living person at any one time. There would surely be one or two Japanese that is above 100 years old now. It's very rare indeed to locate such old citizens.

Human life span has shortened so much compared to those humans living during the Old Testament time as mentioned in the Bible. Methuselah was the oldest guy that lived for 969 years.

But then a particular country has surprised the world with their citizens' ages. Which one? Who else but my country, Malaysia.

In trying to get foreigners to adopt Malaysia as their second home destination under the Malaysia My Second Home Programme, part of the marketing strategy was to promote the long life span. Malaysia's lifestyle / environment has cultivated a group of senior citizens living beyond the average human life span.

If there were only a few then it could be pure luck but when you have more than 50 of them in one country then it's totally something to look at. Not only that, this group of Malaysian senior citizens won't be just sitting at home and hoping that they would be able to live one more day.

This group of Malaysian senior citizens of more than a century old and were born before 1900 would also be making their way to the polling centres around Malaysia on 8 March 2008 for the 12th General Election. Wow!!!!!

Don't believe ah????

Wikipedia has compiled a list of Oldest living people and Oldest people ever (115+). Comparing the Wikipedia's records and Malaysia's oldest man who is still alive and kicking at 127 years old, living in Taman Dato' Harun area and would be voting as well, the Malaysian has broken all World Guinness of Records.

Not only that, the next challenger who could break his record would come from Malaysia too. How do you verify that? Just key in the Identity Card numbers into Election Commission's website. Click here to see another 30 identity card numbers submitted in my blog's comment section by an anonymous person.

Found more of such senior citizens as mentioned in a political party's website. There are so many of such senior citizens. Malaysia must have good social welfare planning in anticipation of more senior citizens from now onwards. This is totally out of the world.

Nicholas Tse Confronted Edison Chen??

Rumours flew all over the place that Nicholas Tse confronted Edison Chen (who had a sexual fling with Nicholas' wife, Cecilia Cheung, before she was married to Nicholas) in Hong Kong.

Paparazzis captured this picture.

The incident happened in a luxury hotel.

Re-Designed Face Mask

During the bird flu scare period few years back, people throughout the world do wear face mask to protect them from catching the bird flu virus in the open air.

Seeing that summer period will be around the corner, bird flu virus may be in the news again. The fashion gurus are quite concious with such issues and thus, they came out with such designs for health concious people.

Totally protected round their face.

The eyes could still view where you are heading to and avoid banging yourself into free standing poles.

How considerate are the fashion gurus / designers.

Police Protection at the Public's Expense

When I blogged about the Special Police Protection for the Rich Hongkies, one thing struck my mind. What if it was a common citizen that was caught in the sex rendezvous with all those beauties instead. Would he get such special police treatment?

As for Edison Chen, he got it. Upon completion of the press conference, his departure from the Hong Kong International Trade & Exhibition Centre (HITEC) took quiet some time as reporters jammed up the whole exit.

I'm sure the special police treatment accorded by the Hong Kong police was at the expense of public fund. So, you Hongkies (or Hong Kongers???) living in Hong Kong - part of your tax money went towards the provision of security for Edison Chen, a person who doesn't stay in Hong Kong most of the time.

Can you believe that this guy even received a police motorcycles escort from HITEC back to his residence.

Treatments reserved for superstar differs from common citizens like you and me?

What Might Have Been If Malaysia Boleh

What might have been if Malaysia Boleh
By Eric Loo February 22, 2008 1:31PM Malaysiakini

The Qu'ran says God is not three in one, that Jesus Christ is just a messenger of Allah. Muhammad is the last messenger. The Bible says God is three in one, that Christ is the living son of God. He's the first and the last.

Buddhism denies the concept of a God; that there are no moral absolutes in life, only guidelines. And, the Bahais say Muhammad, Jesus, Siddharta are all manifestations of God on earth to spread peace and love.

Indeed, different doctrines create different communities distanced by distrust. What if no one group has any exclusive claim to absolute religious truth? Imagine what might have been if every religious group came together with one vision for world peace. Imagine every Malaysian responding to the melodic Azan call to prayer from suhur to isyak - all faced to Mecca and Jerusalem, giving thanks for another day to make a difference given our limited lease on life (presently about 70 years for a Malaysian male, 75 for a female).

Inconceivable? But indulge me for a moment on what's possible, and certainly desirable, in a plural society. That a vegetarian dhoti-clad Christian/Catholic may pray five times a day, appreciates the life story of Muhammad, enjoys the epic of Mahabharata, reflects on the aphorisms of past Buddhist sages, and ponders over the ecumenic teachings of Baha'ullah.

Religious diversity
Imagine every Malaysian living in racially mixed suburbs - no Kampung Baru Cina, no Kampung Melayu - with a common resolve to do what's right, good and noble by their neighbours. Visualise an Indian in baju Melayu lunching at the same kopi tiam with a Malay in cheongsam, and a Chinese in saree, chatting in our peculiar Manglish. Imagine if there was more inter-racial marriage minus the dilemma of mandatory religious conversion?

Imagine if every Muslim goes to the mosque, Buddhists and Hindus to the temples each Sunday morning when their Christian friends go to church - all to worship their god and pray for what's intelligent, right and good to prevail in the coming election. Imagine if every Malaysian takes time to understand their neighbour's faith with no conviction of being called to convert or fear of being converted. But, just believing in religious diversity and the common good with no zealous claim to any jealous god.

I witnessed this common good in humanity, free of religious exclusivity, at the Thaipusam festival in Penang. It was 6.30 on a Tuesday morning. The Malay and Indian police were already up directing traffic and the pre-dawn crowd spilling in to see the chariot of Lord Murugan leave the temple from Penang Street. Following the golden chariot, Chinese and Malay council workers were haphazardly sweeping broken coconuts off the streets. Up front, Indian and non-Indian penitents, skewered and stubbed, were shouldering kavadis followed by Chinese devotees offering sweets and fruits, some handing out packets of food to the crowd. The scene was kaleidoscopically Malaysian, yet 'cacophonically' Indian.

That's the intercultural spirit politicians forget when they talk of imminent racial discord if Barisan loses its majority hold in Parliament. As long as I can remember, since I cast my first vote for the opposition in 1974, each election has been driven by the coalition's caution on Malaysians to vote carefully, rather than intelligently, to avoid another May 13.

Four years on, I wrote in The National Echo (June 28, 1978): "The National Front must understand and realise the aspirations and role of the Opposition's inter-communal compromise should be the basis of government policies. The future has no place for religious and communal based party." That future came and went with no qualitative change in the substance of party campaigns. Apart from today's relatively more strident political discourse by bloggers, it's "same old, same old lah," says an old friend, despondently, of the current electioneering.

Imagine what might have been if our politicians could rise above race and religion in their spiels. What if Mahathir had downplayed religion and race from the equation and denounced in 1984 the political pressure to Islamicise his government machinery? What if Anwar Ibrahim as the anointed leader of UMNO Youth in 1984 had then talked the way he thinks today as the de facto leader of PKR? What if Abdullah Badawi had explicitly reiterated in November 2003 that East and West Malaysia combined is a plural secular nation governed by common secular laws? Would today's character and conduct of Malaysian realpolitik be any different? Maybe.

Rise above bangsa and ugama (race and religion)
Imagine an election that focuses on critical policy reforms to restore the country's depleting human capital, reverse the brain drain, and open its doors to the world's best talent regardless of race or religion. Imagine if UMNO had stood for "Uniting Malaysia Now". And, an MCA-MIC alliance that broke free from their racial religious identikit. What if MCA had stood for a 'Malaysian Collective Advocate' for fair opportunities to all rakyat. And, an MIC reborn as a 'Movement for Integrity and Conscience' in government, and acting as the people's whip over the 'many incompetent cohorts' in parliament.

Malaysia Boleh embodies these many possibilities of what might have been if for the last 35 years or so we had focused on advocating for fundamental reforms in the country's racialised politics, and ridding parliament of politicians who take their constituents for fools. Indeed, we deserve the government we get.

Growing up in Penang with schoolmates from Indian and Malay families, and having worked with colleagues from diverse ethnicities, I know this for a fact. Mydin is not any more likely to be a fundamental kris-wielding Muslim UMNO member than Ah Chong is likely to be a Buddhist, Christian, or atheist MCA loyalist. Or Ayappan is necessarily a Hindu vegetarian MIC follower, or a DAP supporter a frustrated left-leaning non-Malay NGO worker.

The day may come when our politicians, civil activists, and the rakyat are able to rise above bangsa and ugama in their discourse and advocacy for improvements to living conditions and equal access to opportunities to realise one's full potential. While talks and chats in the Malaysian public space are bolder than what they were in the pre-Internet days, the arguments are as racialised as ever. Same-old, same-old.

Imagine if the government, after winning the next election (I can't imagine any other outcome), would lead by setting up an alternative 'cabinet' where it invites Opposition and civil society leaders to sit and talk as equals, over a cuppa, to deliberate over programs for the benefit of all Malaysians. No politics. No inter-racial bidding. Behind the 'complexities' of race politics lie a common sense solution - talk, listen and act for the common good.

Still Hunting for a House

Since the day I found out that my favourite piece of property (loved the way it was renovated, just what I wanted) in Sri Petaling was not favourable, I couldn't find a suitable one from thereon. Most of the houses that I have seen just do not have that 'feel'.

Moreover, most of it may required substantial amount of money to be pumped in for renovation purpose as the houses have built some time back. This may delay my time in moving into the house as it would involved DBKL approving my renovation plans and so forth. The other issue that has been bothering me is that the Sri Petaling residential area is under leasehold status and most of its landbanks have only 70++ years left.

When I saw that earlier piece of property, I have made arrangement to put up my current condo for sale. The best part is a couple came to view and is making arrangement to buy my condo unit. Where am I going to stay then?

One of the financial mortgage guys that I spoke to told me that I should consider every aspect in purchasing a house. I must not have the thinking that this house would be my retirement spot. He did mention "what if my family requires emergency funding and I need to dispose of my house". If that piece of property has poor resale value or unable to find buyer easily, I would have to think twice about it. Man! ........ just when you thought money could buy anything but with such things to consider, it would make think thrice actually.

I'm waiting for the last piece of development that would be launched any time now. The developer is Petaling Garden Berhad. A call to them had got my antenna springing up where the launching could be called real soon. Further digging elsewhere resulted with an information that either the double storey or the 2 1/2 storey houses would cost RM500,000 onwards. Goodness me! Really did dampen my spirit.

The other thing I heard that people that have connection with housing / property developers normally do get to buy their favourite units much in advance, leaving the crumbs for the public at large (yeah, I'm in the public category).

Apart from waiting for the latest development, during the past weekends and CNY, it was round here and there to look for those houses that have signboards hanging outside their gate - "For Sale". The newspapers' classified section on House for Sale is one of my favourite page now.

Had been calling property agents more than I called my friends lately.

Just because of hunting for a house, I developed stress. A close friend asked, "was it because you found a good buyer and that you were rushing to purchase a property for yourself". I need to be careful of that too in case I was blind towards something while rushing to buy one. Do I need to rush?

Then other friends, in good faith, recommended me to view houses at nicer spots e.g. Lake Fields, Sungai Besi and Lake Edge, Puchong (agreed that this place is too beautiful, if funds were available would surely set my feet there). Only issue - way beyond my budget with all of it above RM460,000 till almost hitting RM600,000. RM460,000 is before any simple renovations and furniture & fittings. Felt like fainting now.

What was your experience like?

Stretchable Mobile Phone by Nokia

One of the latest phone released by Nokia is the Nokia Morph. This mobile or hand or cell phone was manufactured with the collaboration of the University of Cambridge's Nanoscience Centre which incorporated nanoscale technologies (whatever it is).

In coming up with this latest gadget, the Morph would have such concept technologies:-
* Newly-enabled flexible and transparent materials blend more seamlessly with the way we live
Devices become self-cleaning and self-preserving
* Transparent electronics offering an entirely new aesthetic dimension
* Built-in solar absorption might charge a device, whilst batteries become smaller, longer lasting and faster to charge
* Integrated sensors might allow us to learn more about the environment around us, empowering us to make better choices

With this thing called nanoscale technologies, it would bring lots of changes to the world market:-
* Nanotechnology enables materials and components that are flexible, stretchable, transparent and remarkably strong

* Nanostructured surfaces, such as “Nanoflowers” naturally repel water, dirt, and even fingerprints

* Nanotechnology holds out the possibility that the surface of a device will become a natural source of energy via a covering of “Nanograss” structures that harvest solar power

* Nanosensors would empower users to examine the environment around them in completely new ways, from analyzing air pollution, to gaining insight into bio-chemical traces and processes.

If you didn't understand a single point written above, never mind, neither do I. Just read for extra knowledge then. Check it out further when the phone is in Malaysian market. Could be long long long time to come!

Rain Water's Not Free in Malaysia

Malaysia is really doing something beyond what I could imagine nowadays. If they were moving forward, I'm alright with it. But if it was heading to nonsense, I would want the whole world to read about it as well. You judge it for yourself.

The most developed state in Malaysia, Selangor, has issued a letter to factories and golf clubs that they would have to apply for a licence for usage of rain water. Attached below is a letter from Lembaga Urus Air Selangor stating the same.

In the letter, it was stated that respective organisations that have received the letter from LUAS would have to pay up to RM0.01/cubic metre. If the rain water has dropped on these properties, was stored and used then you would be charged.

Now, a golf course has a number of lakes served as obtacles on the golf fairway. Normally, golf clubs would use those rain water that somehow poured down on the lakes to water plants in the golf course.

I have seen factories that would make several water storing tanks to store rain water that flows down on its roof. Would use it for their production purposes or maybe to wash the factories' area.

Another Guinness World of Records. What will the state of Selangor charge next? For the air we breathe in? For the trees/grass that grows at public area that produces oxygen? Maybe for those wild animals/insects that roam behind our garden that was referred to as our teaching object in educating our children? There must be many more up their sleeves.

Final Words - Election Joke

The old priest lay dying in the hospital.

For years he had faithfully served the people of the nation's capital. He motioned for his nurse to come near."Yes, Father ?" said the nurse." I would really like to see KJ and SV before I die", whispered the priest. "I'll see what I can do, Father" replied the nurse.

The nurse sent the request to them and waited for a response. Soon the word arrived. KJ and SV would be delighted to visit the priest. As they went to the hospital, KJ commented to SV "I don't know why the old priest wants to see us, but it will certainly help our images." SV couldn't help but agree.

When they arrived at the priest's room, the priest took SV's hand in his right hand and KJ's hand in his left. There was silence and a look of serenity on the old priest's face.

Finally SV spoke. "Father, of all the people you could have chosen, why did you choose us to be with you as you near the end ?" The old priest slowly replied: "I have always tried to pattern my life after our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ."

The old priest continued......"He died between two lying thieves. I would like to do the same."

Newest Country in the World - Kosovo

Kosovo, one of the latest place on earth where its government representatives broke ranks from their main government, Serbia, and has declared independence. Another new country being added? No notice was given by Kosovo prior to that with USA and the major European countries (Britain, France, Germany and Italy) supporting Kosovo's cause.

This is their flag. Officially, the six stars were to represent six ethnic groups.

Kosovo's profile:-
* Population about two million
* Majority ethnic Albanian; 10% Serb
* Under UN control since Nato drove out Serb forces in 1999

* 2,000-strong EU staff to take over from UN after independence
* Nato to stay to provide security

In my schooling days, I would take the initiative to read up on all countries' names and also trying to remember their capital city. I think I have lost count with the number of new countries springing up every now and then. The former USSR and Yugoslavia have broken up into so many countries.

For Yugoslavia, it has given birth to the following countries:-
* Slovenia
* Croatia
* Bosnia
* Serbia
* Montenegro
* Macedonia
* Kosovo

Rumours were strong that following areas may break away when possible - Republika Srpska / Vojvodina / Sandzak / Northern Kosovo Presevo Valley / Western Macedonia. What a mess therein.

Certain countries have opposed Kosovo's declaration of independence, namely, Russia / China / Cyprus / Romania / Slovakia / Spain. Taiwan declared their support for Kosovo where it got China fuming.

Kosovo is basically populated by ethnic Albanians and the minority Serbs are really not happy with this surprise independence.

Imagine overnight, someone in the government changed your citizenship.

Oldest Man Still Alive and Kicking in Malaysia

Didn't I tell you all Malaysians to check the electoral listing. Have you checked, be it whether you have registered to vote or not, it doesn't matter.

Just key in your Identity Card number and check. If it shows "REKOD TIDAK DIJUMPAI" (record not found) then you are alright. But if you knew that you haven't register but somehow your name appeared in the latest listing, please do report to BERSIH or the Election Commission (doubt they would or could do anything).

In one of the latest random check, this Identity Card number was provided - 810422016825. If you key in this number, it would show a person by the name of Md Melahtu B Bungkus that was born in the year of 1881. He would be 127 years old today, still alive and kicking at the vicinity of Taman Dato' Harun, somewhere off Jalan Kelang Lama.

I'm very sure that officials from the Guinness World of Records would like to interview him and list him as the oldest man or person that is still alive and kicking and would be making his way to the polling centre on 8 March 2008. Somehow, this man has not 'bungkus' yet. Anyone can verify whether this man is still alive and kicking? Interesting electoral list indeed!

Special Police Protection for the Rich Hongkies

The rich people in Hong Kong do get preferential treatment from the Hong Kong police force.

Edison Chen, the controversial Hong Kong singer/actor that has slept (yeah, crude word but it was true) and took numerous nude photos (numbering up to 1,300 - you didn't know?) with known female actresses/singers, came back to Hong Kong for a press conference on Thursday to explain and extend apologies to the whole world especially the ladies involved in his scandal.

The police force has to assign 100 personnels to be at the press conference. A group of the police force formed a barricade surrounding Edison's Merz S Class upon Edison's arrival. Reporters couldn't get close to him.

Another group of police was in the conference hall to prevent crazy newspapers and TV reporters from having a free for all (police's photos taken from ESWN).

I went into the Hong Kong police website but couldn't find the page that allows common citizen to hire the police force for protection purposes.

At yesterday's press conference held at Hong Kong International Trade & Exhibition Centre in Kowloon Bay, Edison admitted taking all those photos (so, it was not fakes at all) where he mentioned it was supposed to be private affairs (yeah, really private till each of the girls thought they were the special one in Edison's heart). He said that he didn't distribute a single photo and blamed it on an anonymous person by the name of Kira.

You can view/listen to his press conference (thanks to technology) right here where he mentioned about quitting the entertainment industry and would be helping out at charities. So, case closed now? Hong Kong triads lifted the threat of cutting off his hand?

Inflation of 100,000% is Possible

Zimbabwe's economy is definitely heading somewhere - down the drains, yeah all the drains.......

Latest inflation figure was estimated at 100,000% (but compared against which year?). When a country was required to print a larger currency denomination, which in this case was a 10,000,000 (Ten Million) Zimbabwe dollar note, it has sounded to the world that their smaller denomination notes were of no further use. Why was that so?

Previously bus fares were at Z$1.5m (that's in millions) and now, it's Z$3m. School teachers have to quit their jobs and took up menial jobs near their homes leaving schools without teachers in the new year.

A pair of branded lady shoes was selling at Z$150m in early 2008 but it went up to Z$450m lately.

You would be considered lucky if you could get a job which pays you Z$500m per month which worked out to US$100.

Banks have issued new rulings due to chronic shortage of cash:-
* staff who earn over Z$1m a month must be paid by cheques (where high bank charges would eat up a portion too).
* no cheques of Z$50m or above (US$416) are acknowledged by the banks and there are limits on the amount of cheques that can be drawn each day.
* only Z$3m (US$21) could be withdrawn from the ATM (per day I presumed).

In a way, that piece of 10,000,000 dollar note that was issued lately could be quite worthless. Such hyperinflation could happen when a government doesn't control their spendings and when cronies were the ones getting paid if ever spent by the government.

Why Men Are Never Depressed

Men Are Just Happier People--

What do you expect from such simple creatures? Your last name stays put. The garage is all yours. Wedding plans take care of themselves. Chocolate is just another snack. You can be President. You can never be pregnant. You can wear a white T-shirt to a water park. You can wear NO shirt to a water park. Car mechanics tell you the truth.

The world is your urinal. You never have to drive to another gas station restroom because this one is just too icky. You don't have to stop and think of which way to turn a nut on a bolt. Same work, more pay. Wrinkles add character. Wedding dress $5000. Tux rental-$100.

People never stare at your chest when you're talking to them. New shoes don't cut, blister, or mangle your feet. One mood all the time. Phone conversations are over in 30 seconds flat. You know stuff about tanks. A five-day vacation requires only one suitcase. You can open all your own jars. You get extra credit for the slightest act of thoughtfulness.

If someone forgets to invite you, he or she can still be your friend. Your underwear is $8.95 for a three-pack. Three pairs of shoes are more than enough. You almost never have strap problems in public. You are unable to see wrinkles in your clothes.. Everything on your face stays its original color. The same hairstyle lasts for years, maybe decades. You only have to shave your face and neck.

You can play with toys all your life. One wallet and one pair of shoes -- one color for all seasons. You can wear shorts no matter how your legs look. You can "do" your nails with a pocket knife. You have freedom of choice concerning growing a mustache. You can do Christmas shopping for 25 relatives on December 24 in 25 minutes.

No wonder men are happier.

Red Roses Available in Black Market

Imagine that Valentine's Day is near and you hoped to get some stuff that was red in colour for your wife/girlfriend. Suddenly, you can't see anything that was red in colour across the city.

The following conversation overheard in a florist shop:-
Man: I'm looking for some flowers for my girlfriend.

Shopowner: They are not available, Sir.

Man: What do you mean? You have no red roses? It's Valentine's Day today and you don't sell flowers in your shop?

Shopowner: It's very unfortunate, Sir. We can't sell RED roses but I suggest that you buy other type of flowers instead.

Man: How come it's not available throughout the city. Where are those red stuff?

Shopowner: The religious police made their rounds and warned shopowners to stop selling red coloured stuff as the red coloured items were banned.

Man: ???????? Fine, fine. Get me a bouquet of carnations then and please wrap it with red coloured wrappers.

Shopowner: Sorry Sir but we could not sell RED coloured wrapper as well. This is my selection of coloured wrappers but no red colour.

Man: This is crazy. Any ideas where I could get what I wanted.

Shopowner: You could go to the back lane. There's a guy there who has what you wanted but I'm warning you first, the police could be watching. Those items you wanted are only found in the black market now and the price were much steeper.

The above conversation could happen in Saudi Arabia as shops couldn't sell red coloured items in view of the Valentine's Day as it was considered un-Islamic - being viewed as as encouraging relations between men and women outside wedlock.

Florists took the risk of despatching orders for flowers in the middle of the night to avoid being caught. Rich fellas went over to Bahrain or United Arab Emirates to celebrate the Valentine's Day.

No More High Definition HD DVD???

Just when I was targetting to buy a DVD player, this piece of news came about - Toshiba to discontinue HD-DVD business. Toshiba promised to provide continuous technical support to customers who have bought their HD DVD earlier. Why the discontinuation? It seems that it was not selling as well as Blu-Ray DVD.

Pity the earlier purchasers. Even though Toshiba would provide technical supports, movie producers may not be producing DVDs in HD format since there would be lesser HD DVD users, less profitable. So, what's the point of owning one HD DVD when you don't have movies / softwares catering for it which means lesser usage of it, lesser breakdowns. Sometimes I really find such statements by an multinational companies ridiculous.

Looks like the HD DVD would be down the drain. What's the difference between a HD DVD and a Blu-Ray DVD? Read it in Engadget - Blu-ray vs HD DVD: State of the Division.

How did it come about with two different technologies for a DVD? I remembered those days (yeah, during my era and I doubt the young generation could relate to this) there was a war between the VHS and Betamax video format player and Betamax lost the war. This DVD thingy could be the same issue.

Now, what is Blu-Ray? You better read it in Blu-Ray.com.

Which consumer electronics manufactures this Blu-Ray DVD? I have to study which of this is the better ones now. It seems that Apple, Dell, Hitachi, HP, JVC, LG, Mitsubishi, Panasonic, Pioneer, Philips, Samsung, Sharp, Sony, TDK and Thomson have it in their stable. Too many choices but Sony's DVD player seems to be getting headline when comparison was made against Toshiba's HD DVD.

Alright, I'm heading to the nearest electrical store to buy a Blu-Ray DVD player. What about the HD technology for TVs????? Going to be redundant soon??? Manufacturers, please decide fast as I want to buy a High Definition TV. Please don't surprise me as what Toshiba has done.

Indonesians Recruited into Malaysian Paramilitary

It's in the news that Indonesians have been recruited into the Malaysian paramilitary force, also known as the Rejimen Askar Wataniah, which is the reserve component of the Malaysian Army.
This Askar Wataniah regiment was said to have recruited Indonesians to man the 2,000 kilometre long border of both Malaysia and Indonesia located at the Borneo Island. An estimated figure of 40,000 member force man the border. Those are huge battalions.

As published in Kompas, people living at the border knew that it was a fact that Indonesian youngsters have been recruited. The West Kalimantan Police has stated that none of their citizens have been recruited. So, who is telling the truth?

The Indonesian army said that if it was true, it could be Indonesians who have taken up the Malaysian citizenship as the citizenship was one of the main criteria in joining the paramilitary force. But how many of the 40,000 member force are Indonesians or previously holding Indonesian citizenships?

What's the issue here? The Indonesian army do not want any future confrontation with their blood brothers in case of any _ _ _ ??????? Indonesian army is preparing to invade Malaysia or what?

Shophouse Churches Must Get Permits

Churches in Subang Jaya which have been operating out of shop and factory lots have not been asked to close down, said incumbent Subang Jaya assemblyman Datuk Lee Hwa Beng.

“We have not asked them to close down, but to submit their application for permits,” said Lee, adding that such churches have to get a permit to operate from business premises.

He said many of the churches which are not on religious land have not applied for these annual permits costing RM1,000.

Lee was responding to a statement by incumbent Seputeh MP Teresa Kok that churches in MPSJ need to show concern about the municipality’s draft local plan.

According to her, only one church (First Baptist in SS17) is deemed to be legally on religious land in Subang Jaya, and that all others are officially illegal.

Kok said most of the churches were unaware of the draft local plan and it was now too late to submit their objection as the objection period was over.

She had however filed an objection on the issue, and called for more religious land to be allotted for non-Muslim places of worship.

Lee, when contacted, said the opposition was twisting the issue as the council had not asked the churches to close down but asked them to apply for permits.

Asked if this was the same requirement imposed on mosques, suraus and temples, Lee said: "If they are on their own land then there is no need for them to apply for the permits for their religious houses, but in the cases of the churches, they need to apply for the permits because they are operating from out of the shoplots in business centres and factory lots in industrial areas." - Sun2Surf

How in the world will churches get to have a land reserved for them in a housing estate? If the churches can't get any land, other options would be at shophouses or even at warehouses / industrial/factory lots (like my church). When churches submit their application for one, it took umpteenth years (literally) for one to be approved.

HIV Infected People Will Be Arrested in Egypt

In Malaysia, those people who were HIV infected or diagnosed with the AIDS virus, would still get some freedom in moving about and get to do what they wanted. For those who were weak, they may be resting at home or homes catered for HIV/AIDS patients.

I do not have a friend or relative that has the virus so I won't know how I would react and certainly won't be scared stiff but certainly won't react the way Egypt has reacted.

The Egyptian authorities would go all out to arrest those people that came down with HIV/AIDS. Why did they do that to those people who were already suffering from that sickness? It seems that arrested men would be subjected to anal examination to determine whether they were homosexuals. Ridiculous way of examining. The moment these guys were found involved in unusual sexual desires, they would be chained to hospital beds and undergo further medical tests.

To the Egyptian authorities, this could be a method of stopping the virus from spreading to other victims once and for all. Is homosexual the issue here or was it the disease? I wonder how would conduct a test on a woman if found infected too.

The Human Rights Watch and Amnesty International found this arrest shocking. I called this an extreme case (religious extremists) and the Egyptian authorities were really not well trained in handling such homosexual cases or cases involving people striken with HIV/AIDS. No human feelings/sympathy at all. Would simply call this torturing too.

I have read about so many non-profitable organisations that opened up homes for the HIV/AIDS infected people throughout the world and this Egyptian step must be the first of its kind in this world too. Guinness World of Records may want to recognise Egypt for this.

Tragedy of Restlessness

If I were to ask you to just rest and do nothing all of today, what will you do?
Grab a newspaper, turn on the TV, logon the web, maybe do some shopping or balance your accounts?

If I told you, your food & clothing for all of this year is taken care of - what will you do with your life?
Book a holiday? Climb the Himalayas? Read all the books you've bought in the last year?

The tragedy of our ultra-modern life is there simply is no time for rest, and even if there was - we no longer know how to. Our culture is such that we are constantly distracted - by ads, newsflashes, SMS-es, latest movie releases, etc. We have made life so zippingly fast-paced, that we can't catch up with ourselves any more.

Anything we do, buy, read today is obsolete by the time we lay hands on it - somebody is inventing something better right now, a new discovery is being published today, the way you operate has been superceded by a smarter method. Sadly, though we are so breathless playing catch-up trying to stay focussed we no longer know what is rest much less how to get it.

At a time when we need to recover our humanity and meaning the most, we are swept away by a tide of artificial substitutes. Hollywood, MTV, the tourism and food industry make sure of that. What entertainment and every kind of sensual indulgence offers is a quick-fix, temporary relief, fleeting moments of pleasurable but imaginary escape which leaves us only more hungry, empty and lonely than before. But then, we've got to get back to work - who has time to think about it?

In a similar situation of exhaustion and starvation, Jesus, recognising the urgent need for recovery and nourishment intervened:'"Come away by yourselves to a lonely place and rest a while." (For there were many people coming and going, and they did not even have time to eat.)

And they went away in the boat to a lonely place by themselves. (Mark 6:31-32, NASB)'I love the passage for what it doesn't say as much as what it does. Jesus doesn't say, 'Go away for awhile and come back ready to work again.' He doesn't send you away only when you are fatigued beyond use, and for the sole purpose of rehabilitating the workforce. And it isn't one of those company motivation and indoctrination retreats just to make you more aggressive and productive.

Source: Around The Fire by Dr Y.Y. Yap. "The Tragedy of Restlesness" was delivered at the Headstart Leaders' Spiritual Retreat, 16-18 September 2005.

After reading the above, there are times that we really do need a break if not, stress and burn out could occur thus causing sickness or demotivation to set in. I'm very careful in this area and when I work I could go all out. And when I play I do go all out too even in friendly games (doesn't mean I can't lose but frankly, I don't play to lose in the first place).

As for me, a rest day could involve going for a good massage to relief me from the stress. Soothing music with your muscles getting relaxed would be the choice for me. Holidays - well, it meant strolling around with family and friends with no fixed timing for anything and going for my favourite dishes. Yeah, I like to eat. How do you de-stress yourself?

Kidney Stolen While in India

I remembered receiving emails related to the above subject matter which I have treated it as a spam email. How can your kidneys be stolen?

There is this Snope website which detailed all kinds of spam, scam, hoax, fake, false news collated from throughout the world and if you suspect that that news may not be true, you can check it out in Snope.

Suddenly I came across this news article India's booming kidney racket found in BBC News/South Asia -
"When I woke up, I felt this terrible pain on my abdomen. They told me they had taken out my kidney. "I thought I was going to die." Shakeel Ahmed only wanted to come to Delhi to find work.

Then I compared the above article to Snope's collection -
Kidney stolen after a heavy party fling and left in a bath tub filled with ice cubes which I had blogged under Urban Legends.

Wow, frightening enough that it's real after all. Another myth busted?????

Extracted from BBC News/South India:-
* An estimated 150,000 Indians need a kidney transplant every year, but only 3,500 are available.

* Every hospital has a tout. In fact, the doctors or nephrologists will often suggest a person that you can contact to get a kidney. They charge up to US$10,000.

* The recipients were wealthy clients in India and other countries. Some of them were from Greece, Arab countries, United States and one or two patients from European countries."
