Current TV Trend

I favour a LCD TV lately too especially when the prices are down back home in Malaysia. But I noted that this guy from Ireland has a much better idea where you could bring the cost of owning such TV models to a price where you could afford that big screen TV.

Malaysia International Gourmet Festival (MIGF)

The MIGF, which starts today and ends on 29 Nov. The festival is aimed at promoting the country's best local chefs and their versatility. Among the participating restaurants are
Iketeru in Hilton Kuala Lumpur,
Lafite in Shangri-La Hotel, Dynasty in Renaissance Kuala Lumpur, Hanabi Japanese Restaurant in Kuala Lumpur,
Tamarind Springs in Kuala Lumpur,
Eest and Prego at the Westin Kuala Lumpur (both restaurants are indeed marvellous) and
The Olive in Genting Hotel (my favourite restaurant too). For full restaurant listing, click here.

Three Michelin Stars – German Chef Volker Drkosch, French Chef Joel Antunes and Spanish Ramon Freixa Reira – will be serving up a storm at The Olive in Genting. Just like the Academy Awards which are given to stars in the movie industry, those who receive Michelin Stars from the Michelin Guide signifies that their restaurants embody excellence in all aspects of their dining experience, from the quality of the cuisine to the ambience, service and attention to detail. Michelin Stars are considered the most influential and consequently most prized accolade in the culinary world. Always my dream too, to be become a Food Inspector under the Michelin Guide's guidance. In conjunction with the festival, a 3-day Epicure Malaysia Fair will be held from 17 to 19 Nov at the Sime Darby Convention Centre. Next year, the festival would be an even bigger affair with more restaurants coming on board in anticipation of Visit Malaysia Year 2007.

Liquid Gold or Designer Water

The spring water under Canaqua brand is now the world's most expensive water. Canaqua comes from an underground aquifer spring in the coast mountains of British Columbia, Canada, 1,200 feet above sea level. The source, which flows at a rate of 2,200 litres a minute, is untouched by air or any living thing before it is hydraulically pumped up 180 feet to be bottled. It will only run out if it never snows for 80 years in the mountains — an unlikely event. Canaqua water is rich in calcium and, unusually, virtually sodium-free which was a rare and added bonus.

Global price for a 475ml bottle of Canaqua costs:-
- Dh10 in Dubai (found in Harvey Nichols, in Mall of the Emirates, Dubai)
- £3 in London
- €6 in Paris
- €4 in Italy
- US$7 in Japan

Most Expensive Home in USA

In 2004, Donald J. Trump bought former health care executive Abe Gosman's palace, Maison de L'Amitie, at bankruptcy auction for $41.25 million. With the refurbished version--complete with a ballroom, conservatory, 80,000 square feet of space, 100-foot-long swimming pool and 475 feet of oceanfront--he aims to set a U.S. sales record (could be a world record too) at a price of US$125million.

Luxury Cellphones

Talking about luxury lifestyle, some people cannot do without the daily cellphone (a.k.a. mobile phone or handphone in other countries) even though it cost a bomb.
Vertu, a Nokia subsidiary, retails cellphones around €4,000 up to €80,000, or US$5,100 to US$102,000. Such customers, as commented by Vertu, bought it because people noticed them. Egoistic???? Vertu is expensive due to it being assembled by hand in pristine workshops, Vertu's internal architecture features more than 400 mechanical parts, among them 18 jewelled bearings, all inside a case constructed of the finest materials. The effort to create such an instrument alone resulted in over 20 new patents. The sapphire used on the face is a scratch-resistant crystal second only to diamond in hardness.

GoldVish, a Swiss company, plans to ship in October a line of solid gold and diamond-encrusted handsets that start at US$24,500 (entry level cellphone). Goldvish is marketing their products as a collection for buyers. Next week in Cannes during the Millionaire's Fair, Goldvish will launch their top of the range, a 1001hp Bugatti Veyron, dressed up in platinum, gold and diamonds, costing a cool €1million (US$1,278,000). A Guinness world of records.

Siemens introduced a series of phones called Xelibri in 2003 with unusual shapes and odd- looking dialing keypads intended to appeal to style-conscious users.

Not getting left behind, the popular Motorola Razr VEi DG phone, a co-branded between Motorola & Dolce & Gabbana and sells for US$600.

Tag Heuer, the Swiss watch brand, will introduce a branded phone retailing at around €1,500 (US$2,835) next year, said ModeLabs Group, the French company producing it.

Why luxury cellphones appeals? "Ask yourself how bad it looks at a meeting when you wear a Patek Philippe watch, carry an Hermès briefcase, use a Montblanc pen and then answer a plastic phone?"
