Kuala Lumpur International Buskers' Festival 2006, being the 1st year in Kuala Lumpur, would be featuring some 20 international acts from 7 different countries (namely Canada, Japan, USA, Mexico, Australia, Netherlands & New Zealand) with everything you know and love. In store is 9 days of creative mayhem... crammed with non-stop fun and excitement. Expect organized crazy and creative performances from a stellar cast of international street entertainments who made it their life mission to thrill and delight. When I was in Singapore during November 2004, the same Buskers group was performing at Orchard Road, main shopping street. Really enjoyed their public performance at the streets throughout the night.

Match-Making Cruise

In Shanghai of China, educated, overworked and looking for love, members of China's new rich gathered for what was touted as the country's first dating cruise which was opened to men worth at least 2 million yuan (US$250,000; euro195,000). Great move?
The cruise, organized by a matchmaking website www.915915.com.cn, for which a ticket will cost 28,800 yuan (US$3,600; euro2,750). It's a public service for the site's members only. The website's members are 35 percent men & 65 percent women. The site allows members to post photographs and brief introductions and also counsels singles on how to find a match.

As for female participants had to be college educated and undergo a rigorous screening process. The paticipants planned to pass the evening cruising the Huangpu River aboard the Captain One, a faux square rigger bedecked with pink balloons and fairy lights hanging from its mast.

80th Birthday Bash

Imagine if there were tanks that rolling through the streets and jets roared overhead with some 300,000 flag-waving people celebrating your 80th birthday, would you ensure that you make yourself available for it. Well, not for the case of Fidel Castro, the head of the Cuban government. The ailing leader, still recuperating after a major surgery done 4 months ago, did not attend in what many saw as a sign his long rule of Cuba may be over.
It was Castro's 80th birthday and the 50th anniversary of the start of the revolution that put him in power accelerated speculation that he may be fading into history after 47 years in control. It was the biggest military parade in Havana, Cuba since 1986 which capped 5 days of celebrations that felt more like a farewell than a birthday party and included conferences on Castro's place in history. The events were attended by left-wing politicians and intellectuals from dozens of countries.

Asian Games 2006 in Qatar

Asian Games 2006 began on 1 Dec 2006 with Qatar playing host this time. Opening ceremony was held at Khalifa Stadium in Doha and the games will end on 15 Dec 2006. All 45 countries and region are participating in this 15th Asian Games. Participants will be involved in 39 sports - 46 disciplines. China has started off the first day of competition on 2 Dec 2006 sweeping all 7 gold medals available thus far. With their mass population, China will dominate the game again with South Korea and Japan posting some challenges.
Hong Kong entertainer Jackie Cheung sang ‘Together Now’ accompanied by hundreds of drummers as the Games' flag bearers entered the arena. Indian Bollywood star Sunidhi Chauhan, Lebanese artist Magida El Roumi and Spanish tenor Jose Carreras were among the performers.

Dear Hokkien-speaking friends, laugh until you kee siao!

Dr. Quek made a routine house call to Mr. Lim, one of his elderly patients. He asks, "And how are you doing today, Mr. Lim?" Mr. Lim replies, "I feel just fine, doc. But you know, it's the strangest thing. Every night when I get up to pang jio, the bathroom light goes on for me automatically when I open the door!"

The doctor is worried that the old man is getting senile, so he phones the man's son, and the son's wife answers. The doctor tells her, "Mrs. Lim, I'm a little concerned about your father-in-law. It seems that when he gets up to urinate at night and opens the bathroom door, the light somehow goes on..."

At which point, Mrs. Lim yells, "Aiyoh, Ah Seng! Ah Pa pang jio in the fridge again!"
