5MB Hard Disk

How much are you willing to pay for a 5MB Hard Disk now? I supposed you won't even ask for such low memory at all. You can get a 1GB pendrive (or thumbdrive) equivalent to 1000MB easily nowadays.
The picture on the left is a hard disk in year 1956. That was the Volume and Size of a 5MB memory storage. The hard disk drive (HDD) weighed over a ton and stored 5MB of data.

In September 1956, IBM launched the 305 RAMAC (pic below), the first computer with a HDD. Can you believe that? A big sized computer system with only a 5MB capacity.
Let’s appreciate our 1 GB pendrive.

Deepest Pool

World's deepest swimming pool with 2 pools, 3 pits (5, 10 and 33m) and 2,500,000 liters of spring water!!! The pool in the picture is for diving instructions and training.

A few years ago, a never-used mine shaft was used for the same purpose, only going to depths of like 400+ meter.............. It was at the site of the never exploited Wilhemina Mines near Roermond / Herkenbosch Netherlands.

Accepted - movie review

Accepted – starring Justin Long, Jonah Hill & Adam Herschman. Year end result was out and high school students future was dependable on it as to which college will accept them. Justin’s result was just not good enough to be accepted by any college. Due to that he tried to talk the parents from sending him to a college which was rejected of course. Out of desperation, he, with a few close friends, created a college name, a fake college letter of acceptance and bluffed the parents into believing that he was accepted by a college named South Harmon Institute of Technology, in short it’s called S.H.I.T. To convince his doubtful dad, a website was also set-up by his mate. A rundown and abandoned building was obtained to be changed into a college front.

After checking into the college, an unknown guy came knocking the college door. To Justin’s surprise, dozens of other young people were standing outside the college entrance too. Apparently, his friend who created the website allowed people to register and those came in also paid up for the first term of college. With the money available, Justin and friends put up activities as lessons beyond your imagination. Such students were not bothered about the activities as they were also students who had failed to be accepted into any colleges. Staying there with frequent parties suit them just find. A high-end college came to know about SHIT’s existence and the authorities were alerted and operations came to an end. Justin and gang came together to appeal to the education authority and tried to apply for a licence to operate.

In the authority’s context, any group of people coming together with the intention of learning something will be allowable and an education could be set-up to cater to that needs. See the movie to see how is Justin going to convince the authorities, failing which he has to return all the money used or be jailed for fraud. A good comedy to break the daily monotonous life wherever you are (works best if you are in Sudan). Fraudsters will like this movie a lot.

Fancy a Bypass at Heart Attack?

Courtney Chapman, a waitress dressed as a nurse at the Heart Attack Grill, holds up a triple bypass burger in Tempe, Arizona. The waitresses at the restaurant, who wear minimal nurses attire, have angered a group of real Arizona nurses who say the servers demean their profession.

A letter has been sent to Heart Attack Grill's office by the Arizona State Board of Nursing to address the usage of the word "Nurse".
Just look at their biggest burger being served and the ingredients stuffed into a Quadruple Bypass. If you do frequent Heart Attack Grill often, looks like the chances of you having a heart attack and followed by a bypass surgery are very bright for you. (Source: Associated Press)

Activities on Friday Weekend

On Friday itself, it was half day work as it was a Friday weekend for Sudan. Sudan, being a muslim country, fixed Friday as its weekend (like Sundays to many other parts of the world). The few of us were quite relaxed in the afternoon and lazy too. Went out to a supermarket to buy some foodstuff for our lunch/dinner (good enough for next 4 days). I bought fresh milk, biscuits, strawberry yogurt and a pint of Haagen Dazs Vanilla Pecan flavour ice-cream which cost me Sudanese Dinar 2,500 (US$11++ equivalent ). Expensive???

We missed our lunch time and only started preparing for our meal at about 4pm. By the time we finished cooking it was already 6pm. Time for dinner!! 5 guys prepared a lamb soup, a plate o lf vegies & By late nite itself, I don't feel quite good and it could be due to too much of the lamb soup. True enough, on the next morning, my whole head was spinning with migraine setting in. Can't move myself much as my head being pounded hard. Lied down on bed restlessly and managed to get up by 10.30am and took a real cold shower (during Sudan's winter period).

Thought it could cool my body down but to no avail. It bugged me for the whole down though much lesser prior to the cold bath. Had simple lunch of sambal anchovies with chicken soup and white rice. Tried to concentrate on my work but hard. A good night came as I watched Man Utd beat Man City in the Manchester derby with a 3-1 results in Man Utd's favour. Went out for a dinner with 4 colleagues at a Malaysian-owned restaurant and ordered a mee mamak with teh tarik that cost me Sudanese Dinar 1,400 (US$6.80 equivalent). Sat down to chit chat while relaxing in the cool atmosphere and suddenly my migraine left me. ahhhhhhhhh what a nice feeling. It was nibbling me the whole night.

The Devil Wears Prada - movie review

The Devils Wears Prada – starring Meryl Streep & Anne Hathaway. About this much feared lady boss of a fashion magazine called Runaway. Her staff tends to avoid her as much as possible due to her temper & strictness. She doesn't care about her staff's morale, life, problems or hardships. She doesn't listen to their explanations or accept the word "No". A new assistance, Anne, came for an interview and got the job immediately. People in the same industry who met/bumped into her told her “people will die to get this job”. The boss, Meryl, really gave a good performance as a much hated boss in the office and her belittling attitude really has a heavy toll on the staff morale. Anne almost quit her job as she can’t stand it too. But as time passes by, she managed to get hold of her job and impressed her boss. She got to attend to matters deemed important by her boss.

Comes a time when she has to choose between her private life with her boyfriend/friends and time spent in her work. I think this affects many of us working folks in the whole world. If you are an employee, you would be able to relate to this movie a lot and feel for Anne’s predicament. A highly recommended movie as it managed to depict the life of many people. Watch the movie to see which direction Anne chooses.

What Is A Bastard?

Question: What is a bastard exactly?

Quite often we ask ourselves hard to answer questions, like, “What is a bastard?”

And we wax philosophic with metaphysical postulations, incomplete aphorisms, and inconsistent sophisms that make one more and more sure that the only true thing is that a picture is worth a thousand words.

In this photo, the guy on the right is a member of a bomb squad in the middle of a deactivation.

The guy behind him, well, he's a bastard.
